Math always made sense to me
Problems with clear solutions
Clear ending points
No need to keep touching things up
Life isn’t like this though
Stories may have led us to think it is
With their clear and often happy endings
Giving us the impression that we can get closure
But in life, endings aren’t always like this
Instead, we are often left with loose ends
Questions we never asked
Words never spoken and longings unfulfilled
These endings can be unexpected or anticipated
Sudden or drawn out, desirable or undesirable
But the loose ends leave us raw and yearning
With a wound that never fully heals
The pain may go dormant for a while
But a day, a song, a smell, a picture
Something rubs against the wound
And reminds us of the ache of ambiguous endings
